I really don’t have a problem with it. They provided the materials on a 36” DIP project we had in Terrell, and it was fine.

In looking at the ductile iron pipe and fittings spec 15062, I only found the domestic manufacturer requirement for grooved joint pipe and fittings, but not for MJ joint fittings, unless
there is something in the Special Provisions that I missed.
The only comment I have on the MJ fittings is that the spec calls for the exterior to be coated with 1 mil bituminous per AWWA C151 or C110, whereas they propose to use a seal coat of
AWWA C104 asphaltic.
On the ductile iron restraint gland, they are required to be equal with EBAA Megalug. I have attached EBAA’s sample spec, and Stargrip appears to meet it with the exceptions that Stargrip
does not indicate that they are listed with UL, and need to know what material they coat it with.
I have also attached EBAA’s sample spec on the PVC restraint gland. Stargrip also appears to meet that one, except need to know what material they coat it with.

I know that they have been selling a product imported from China for many years, but they state that they now produce the product in the United States. I asked if the ore was domestically
refined and he dodged my question, but they do have a letter stating that they meet the requirements for ARRA funds.

Hello, my name is Blake Wegener and I am a representative of Star Pipe Products. Star Pipe is a manufacturer of ductile iron fittings, mechanical joint restraints, grooved couplings,
and municipal castings. I am requesting the approval of Star Pipe Products ductile iron fittings and joint restraints. Specifically for the Surveyor 1.5MG Elevated Storage Tank in Addison,
TX bidding on February 11th, 2011. The specifications set forth state the following:
3" through 12" fittings for use with PVC C-900 piping shall be cast iron conforming to AWWA C-110. Joint restraint devices shall be Mega-lug or approved equal.
Fittings fro use with Ductile Iron piping shall be ASTM A-536 ductile iron or ASTM A-48 cast iron in accordance with AWWA C-110 or AWWA C-153.
Restrained joints shall be mechanically interlocking joints. Restraints joints shall be US Pipe “TR Flex”, ACIPCO “Flex Ring”, or Clow “Super-Lock” Restrained fittings using set screws,
restraining gaskets, gripper type glands, and field-cuts of restrained joints shall be Mega-Lug, or approved equal.
Based on these specifications, Star Pipe Prodcuts’ material is considered to meet the “or equal” status. I am requestiing the approval in writing or an adendum. I have attatched submital
information for your review. If you have any questions or if there is any other information you need please let me know. I appreciate your time and consideration.
