Dave, The requirements are that the detention facility be maintained throughout the life of the project. Corrugated metal pipe has a relatively short life span compared to the life expectancy of the hospital. Additionally, the costs associated with repairing and replacing these facilities can be extremely costly and that is assuming that it does not give way while someone is driving over it. Surely a cost-benefit analysis would yield that this is not a feasible solution. The town has not accepted this as a permanent detention solution in the past. I would recommend another product. I am proposing an underground detention system using corrugated metal piping. A portion of this may be under the fire lane, but will be able to withstand a fire truck loading. Are there any other Town requirements that prevent me from using piping under the fire lane? Thanks, David K. Kochalka, P.E.
