My response to Item 5 is that the curbs should have never been sealed to the top of curb. Typically we seal to the gutter and not to the top of curb to allow the water behind the curb to have the ability to drain out. Reason being is that when you have a freeze the water behind the curb expands inside the curb cut, because it cannot drain, and will crack the curb at that joint. JRJ will have I&H replace the failing joint sealant within the redwood joints; the redwoods were the only spots where failure was noted due to lack of thickness originally installed caused by the backer rod sitting up too high in the joint. 2.) Eric Little gained approval from Clay Barnett with the Town of Addison to remove the backer rod during repair to allow a more durable installation depth. 3.) Barricades will be set up to close the outside lane each direction Monday, February 21st; lanes will remain closed overnight to allow proper sealant cure time. Tuesday, traffic will be flopped and the inside lanes will be closed. PLEASE ADVISE ANDRES to pick up their barricades and current right lane closure as to leave one lane open at all times! We will plan to pick up barricades Wednesday morning (weather permitting) so they can resume their right lane closure… 4.) It was agreed upon with all parties that Andres/UDR will be responsible for any future maintenance in the right lane as shown on the attached PDF site map. 5.) It was noted that the curbs were all sealed, and that maybe they shouldn’t have been. PLEASE ADVISE whether or not this sealant within the curbs needs to remain, OR risk damage by sawing it out of the curb joint. Marty, this issue most likely affects your maintenance so I would like your input along with a final decision from the Town of Addison prior to Monday’s repair. Please respond! Thanks, Andrew D.
