Clay, Just between you and me, it looks like he missed this sentence in your e-mail: “the design needs to include a method for routing all of the drainage from Taxiway S to the grate inlet at the west end.” If I am reading his drawing correctly, it appears that most of the Twy Sierra drainage is going to a drop inlet between Sierra and the new building, closer to the east end of the building; I’m not sure what’s under there (do we have RCP there?) or which direction it flows. And I’m not a Civil Engineer, but a 0.5% earthen slope sounds to me like another name for “areas of ponding in the grass” … I believe that’s why we had to go with concrete pilot channels when we did our improvements on Sierra in 2007. So that’s my $0.005 worth; I’m good with whatever you think he needs to do. Happy New Year! On the west end, I was going to let the water sheet onto the pavement and then into the inlet. On the east end, I am proposing a grate inlet like the one in the approved set of plans. We will be able to provide for approx 0.5% earthen slopes longitudinally with transverse slopes greater than 1.6%. Please review and let me know if this will work. Thanks Steven R. Homeyer, P.E. The concern that we have is that the area originally drained to the west. This plan effectively shifts the drainage from the west to the east. The basin that this drains into currently floods Jimmy Doolittle and several other systems to the east in Addison. With this in mind, the design needs to include a method for routing all of the drainage from Taxiway S to the grate inlet at the west end. Please review this information and revise the plan as needed. We would gladly review any ideas that you have concerning these issues. If you have any questions, please let me know. From: Steve Homeyer Sent: Friday, December 17, 2010 1:30 PM To: Clay Barnett; 'joel.jenkinson@addisonairport.net' Cc: Steve Homeyer; 'Ben White' Subject: Proposed Grading Modifications Clay and Joel, I have attached a PDF of a proposed grading plan for the area between Taxiway Sierra and the existing parking area at Turbine Air. There is positive drainage from the taxiway to the parking areas if we can allow a straight grade between the two locations (slopes are provided). On the west end of the property near the existing inlet, we are proposing to leave the grading “as-is”. On the east end, we are proposing a swale with a slope of 0.5% to drain this area to the parking area. Please review and let me know if you have any questions. As soon as you can let us know that this is acceptable, we will prepare a formal plan submittal so that the contractor can complete the work. Thanks Steven R. Homeyer, P.E.
