I received a phone call from Keith Bradley late yesterday. He had just received a call from Stan Walker, our COE project manager. Stan and his partner, Fred Land, had been out to the Vitruvian site yesterday, and in the words of Stan, he was “mortified” by what he saw. Stan was particularly disturbed by the lack of BMP’s in place, and the area upstream of the existing bridge where the concrete lining is and where Austin is currently working on Bella Bridge. He told Keith that he will make a second visit to the site here in the near future and he wants to see significant improvement in erosion control or he will have no choice but to issue fines (and for those unaware of the COE, these fines generally start in the six figures) and/or shut the project down. It is imperative that everyone focus on making sure we are doing everything feasible to get the BMP’s up to date and functional as quickly as possible before Stan’s next visit. BRUCE F. DUNNE, P.E.
