See Donnie’s comments below; my mistake. I only wanted to point out a couple of items. The 4" main would require an 8" sleeve or bore, and we have 6" and 2" sleeves in our contract, but not a line item for the 8" sleeve. Thanks again for your help, Donnie Wolverton ________________________________ From: "Joe Davila" Date: Thu, 11 Nov 2010 07:46:04 -0600 To: Joseph T. Per American: 1) No bid item for bores under the creek. They do not show up on the bid set of plans but do show up on the construction set. American did not include these in their bid. One set of plans says “Sleeves by other”; who would this be? 2) How are these bores to be done? Depth of horizontal bore pit would need to be 18-20’ deep and would have constant water seeping/flooding into the pit. Size of mainline pipe (4”) would require a 6” sleeve, this size is not anywhere in the bid, and would not allow the pipe to be pulled through a directional bore as too large to bend. Only 4” and 2” sleeves are shown in the bid. 3) Recommendation: Divide looped system into two separate systems. This would eliminate the need to bore the creek and also would most likely allow the size of the mainline to be greatly reduced. Both of these would save the city money. However, a redesign of portions of the irrigation system would have to occur (sizing and routing of mainline) and most likely a 2nd tap on the far side of the creek would be needed; the water main stub out on the far side of the Ponte bridge could be used for this. Jennifer is going to submit an RFI for this.
