Clay, We would like to request that these answers be issued in an addendum. It is our opinion that the drill shaft answer below increases the contractor's risk substantially, and we want to make sure all bidders understand it the way we do. Since something different was said at the pre-bid, we want to make sure everyone's clear on the issue. This risk is potentially worth hundreds of thousands dollars. Thanks. Is the pier steel epoxy coated like the walls, bridges, and weirs? Refer to SP 100 - concrete reinforcement note 2 - in no instances at any location is pier steel to be epoxy coated. 2. SP 300 detail 08 says weeps on 10' centers Detail 07 says 6' and almost all other references say 6' on centers which is correct? Weep hole spacing in all locations is to be 6'-0" maximum. 3. Are the stainless weep hole covers only where the weeps go throught the rock facade or are they on all weep holes? Stainless steel covers are on all weep holes. 4. May we use crushed concrete for the free draining material? Crushed concrete is not allowed for free-draining backfill material. You must use clean, washed gravel or stone. 5.Does item 17 require milling for recycling the asphalt or can it be removed and taken to an asphalt crusher? Reference Special Provision 82. 6. Items 319, 320, 321 are for casing if necessary. 320 and 321 are both for 18" shouldn't one of these be for 12"? Casing, if required, shall match pier diameter in all instances. 7. All drill shafts are subsidiary to the structures and have minimum depths specified on the detail sheets. How will we be paid if these shafts overrun? The Engineer has provided an estimate of quantities for piers based on the depths shown on the structural drawings. It is the contractor's responsibility to calculate his own quantities for each of these items. Any overages and underage's for pier depths will be at the Contractors risk and will not be paid for separately. 8. Sheet SP 300 shows a root barrier. What is this material? Is this on every sidewalk and every footing? This is expensive to install especially at the depths shown and may not be worth the investment for sidewalk. A bid item has been established for root barrier at the request of the Town. See attachment for example. 9. On sheet SP 100 it says all structural steel is to receive a red oxide shop applied primer. On the Wildlife Observation Platform the notes call out galvanized steel. There are no paint finishes for any exposed structural steel. What do you want? All structural steel for both the wildlife viewing platform and the grotto trellis is to be galvanized. Also, the pedestrian rails are to be galvanized. Thank you. R. E.
