Would you please download this for me today? Ask IT for help? I am in Arlington. I attached the coordinates and maps in the first file and the Google photo in the second. It is Fred's project, but here is what I know: *The stream reach is ~2,000 feet, and is being designed to carry the 100-year-24-hour-storm event with a minimum freeboard of 1 foot. *They have a stream reach that appears to be low gradient in a highly urbanized area; however, erosion is a minor issue, i.e. no head cut or severely eroded banks. *Parts of the stream have concrete lining (that we would like to see removed if they plan to use NW27) and I think there is a low water crossing. *Part of the stream is conducive for environmentally friendly enhancement, as defined by Jennifer's concept. *Part of the stream has structures adjacent to the channel with little room for protection without some hardening. *Aesthetics is an issue since it is in a neighborhood. *The city does not have sufficient funding for an individual permit process and purchasing credits at a mitigation bank. *Reconfiguring the design to meet Jennifer's idea of a NW27 stream restoration/enhancement project is likely the only option that meets the cost/benefit ratio. Maybe Fred can fill in some details! Do they have erosion they are trying to address, flooding? What size creek right-of-way? Is it tied to development, part of a CIP program they are working on to address creek concerns? Is there one particular creek they are working on? I would appreciate any information you can share as it will help me pick the sizes of projects to look at. I have asked him to be there at 8:30 am (he is traveling from Richardson) and I will get there as soon as possible, I am guessing between 8:30 and 9 am. Stan - Thanks for coordinating. Nancy - Thank you for taking your time to discuss your projects. Thanks again, Michael -----Original Message----- From: Walker, Standridge M SWF [mailto:Stan.Walker@usace.army.mil] Sent: Tuesday, September 21, 2010 3:24 PM To: Nancy Cline Cc: Walker, Standridge M SWF; Land, Fred J SWF; Owen, Michael Subject: Stream Restoration and Stream Bank Protection in the Urban Environment Nancy, Thanks for adding us to your schedule for next Tuesday, the 28th, to look at some of your projects in Carrolton and Addison. Mike is trying to contact the consultant the city is using for his project, but we should meet even if the consultant can't make it that day. Mike can transfer the lessons learned from your valuable experience to the consultant. Fred and I will make it to your office ~830 am. Mike has to drop his child off at daycare and then will get to your office as soon as possible. You, Fred and I can start reviewing the projects, and all of us can go see the sites when Mike shows up. I understand your time is limited to that morning. We appreciate any time you can share. Thanks again! Are you talking about some of the projects we did in Carrollton? There are a couple that combine "more hardscaping" with "less hardscaping" + " more vegetation". We also have one project here in Addison that we got a permit on that is still under construction. It combined an old concrete rip-rap area to be re-done with an area that we are preserving as a more typical creek. If you think it would help, I would be happy to visit Fort Worth and talk to anyone you would like me to talk to. I think that with the right flows and velocities that sometimes different solutions work. Please let me know if you need more specifics. I hope your family has a good Labor Day weekend.
