Clay- I think we should all discuss this concept. It sounds like a good solution to me. Let me get with Eric and he and I can come over to the Service Center Monday or Tuesday and go
through it. Have a great weekend.

Subject: Flume at the Amphitheater
Tom,
I did some thinking on the issue of the flume at the amphitheater and wanted to revise my opinion from yesterday. The horsetail reed stands 3’ – 4’ tall, has no leaves and is continuous
around the stage of the amphitheater except where the flume is. Attached is a picture of horsetail reed for your reference. I believe that if your sitting in the amphitheater looking
at the stage area, this opening in the horsetail reed is really going to stick out. However, I do not believe that Kevin’s solution of jazzing up the flume will help mitigate how it
will look. That being said I agree with Bruce that we must have drainage conveyed through that area. So I propose an alternative solution to a flume. On the bridge we used the ACO
drain on each side of the bridge deck to keep water from dripping of the side of the bridge. I propose using the same drain along the back side of the amphitheater stage and discharging
it through the concrete cap. The ACO drain is only 5” wide at the top and would be much more apt to blend into the horsetail reed as opposed to a 3’ gap. I have attached a diagram
for your reference.
I will be fine with whatever decision is made, I only want to correct what I had expressed yesterday and offer an alternative solution.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thanks,
Clay Barnett, P.E.
