Eric, I have two concerns here. First, the original tabulation of work by the contractor (3/9/11) included more facilities than are required. The reduction of work in the revised tabulation by the contractor (3/28/11) resulted in virtually no reduction of costs. A noticeable reduction should have occurred with the elimination double 6” HDPE pipes required for 1-4” & 1-2” carrier pipes, the elimination of all 2” carrier pipes (550 LF) and the elimination of 1-4” carrier pipe (130 LF). The contractor is using the same per LF price for both the original and revised tabulations. The contractor should restate the scope of work to the driller and revise the price. Second, is the requirement of an additional 120 LF for the directional drilling. I have completed three quick profiles of the three Irrigation Sleeve locations. An exhibit is attached showing them. Using the 120’ radius provided and entrance and exit angles of less than 15 degrees, I can see where an additional 25’ or so may be warranted. I do not see where an additional 120 LF is needed. I do however respect the expertise of the driller. Here is what I suggest, have the driller markup the profiles for the proposed three crossings. Using the markups we can verify the connection points of the irrigation mains to the crossings and any conflicts with existing or future facilities and determine the final change order quantities. Please let me know if you need anything else. Joel A. Massey Project Manager icon Consulting Engineers, Inc. Bicentennial Financial Center 250 W. I am going to do three quick profiles and verify the bore lengths. I am tied up with deadlines for tomorrow morning and Monday morning. I will try to complete by Tuesday. Can that work? Joel A. The driller is saying that even though the literature says the minimum bend radius is 108’, you also have to take into consideration the bend on the pipe which is 120’. Little; jennifer@ntexcon.com Cc: 'Chad' Subject: Revised Bores at Creek Eric, I have revised the figures per Joel’s request as well as added the credit for the concrete encasement. Please note that the footages called on the plans cannot be satisfied utilizing directional drill as the radius must be increased which in turns increases the footages. To directional drill you have to install on a sweeping radius and to get the depth under the creek the length of the bores are being adjusted to the minimum that we can install. This is the reason for the discrepancy between the neat bored lines on the plans and the actual in the field. Please take a look and let me know as this work needs to go in immediately as to avoid delays. Thanks again.
