I would defer to Fred on this. From: Robyn Jacobson [mailto:rdj@kevinsloanstudio.com] Sent: Monday, April 25, 2011 12:33 PM To: Jennifer Haynes Cc: Eric T. Little; Bruce Dunne; Joel Massey Subject: detectable warning strip under Ponte Bridge Jennifer – Per our conversation last week regarding the detectable warning strip under the Ponte Bridge. You indicated that your sub had commented that the detectable warning paver that we specified was not ADA approved because it does not provide a contrasting color. We have specified “antique pewter” and it is adjacent to both concrete and the Chinese blue/green stone that we have used throughout the park. I spoke with Fred Cawyer (who did our preliminary TAS review) this morning, he indicated that since we do not have a curb ramp, subway, or train line that the contrasting color detectable warning strip/paver is not required. He added that he would evaluate the inclusion of this detectible warning paver/strip as an added precautionary measure for the owner, but that it was not required and therefore did not have to be in a contrasting color. We recommend that the detectable warning paver strip be installed as specified in the “antique pewter” since the addition of a safety red or safety yellow paver strip would NOT be aesthetically preferred. However, we think ToA and UDR should agree this is the right approach before proceeding.
