Lea, During the design meetings with Halff for the bridge, Halff presented the handrail that is being used in the park on the bridge. At that time, Ron expressed concerns about how closed the railing was and wanted something more open. However, no provision was given for using this same handrail in the park. I have attached three pictures that illustrate the differences: 1. Pictures 1 & 2 shows the handrail that was selected for the bridge. 2. Picture 3 shows the handrail that was selected for the bridge and the handrail that will be used in the park along the staircase. The park rail is currently specified to be used on the grotto fountain, tree preservation area and belvedere. I have asked for a price from North Texas Contracting and they have guesstimated that it will cost an additional $500k for the upgrade to the handrail. The price difference is difficult to verify, because Icon bid the railing lump sum as a part of the other structures. Please let me know if I need to obtain further pricing from North Texas Contracting or if the railing specified for the park is sufficient. Thanks, Clay Barnett, P.E.
