Eric, Could you have a look at these and formulate a response for me? Thanks, Clay Barnett, P.E. Town Engineer Town of Addison 16801 Westgrove Drive Addison, TX 75001-2818 Office: (972) 450-2857 From: rick [mailto:rick@rebcon.com] Sent: Wednesday, May 05, 2010 4:43 PM To: Clay Barnett Cc: mike@rebcon.com Subject: Bridge specs Clay, Can I ask that you review three issues in the specs on this job? 1. The requirements for steel fabricator say AISC Certification (major Steel Bridge). Can you expand that to include AISC Certification (Steel Building Structures)? The Major Steel Bridge qualification limits the fabricators to only those who produce steel beams for highway bridges. We need someone who can do more specialized fabrication on this project. The AISC certification alone should suffice in quality control. Widening this requirement should provide the quality you want with cost savings. 2. Most highway contractors will want to erect this steel with their forces. We all have TXDOT qualified welders and will do as good or better job than the erectors that are out there to hire. Can you say certified erector subcontractor or the contractor using TXDOT qualified in house welders can erect this steel? 3. The Prefabricated Bridge is a sole source specification. You have eliminated all other suppliers by requiring a $5000 check to get any other bridge approved just to bid. This may be the way to get the bridge you specifically want but knowing this supplier you will pay a large premium. These bridges are very common and will come with all stamped shop drawings for your review. Thanks for your help. See you tomorrow. Rick
