Eric, I believe this will close this issue. Thanks, Clay Barnett, P.E. I agree that there is a cross section of the sidewalk that is fairly flat. However, that is true of the street at this location as well and is generally true of all streets near low and high points. Additionally, I believe that 0.5% slope is adequate to maintain drainage on a paved surface assuming that the contractor maintains this slope. I will advise Kleinfelder of the flat slopes in these areas and ask them to keep watch to insure that we have positive drainage. How is the examination of the elevations of the bridge approach section matching up with the park plans? I believe this was the issue that Bruce mentioned at the construction meeting a few weeks back. Thanks, Clay Barnett, P.E. I sent the following email and attachment to Halff a little over a week ago. The purpose of the email was to verify with the designer that the bridge deck east side sidewalk transitions provided adequate surface slope to drain. I received a call from a staff member at Halff, I believe the next day, but I have not heard any resolution since then. I believe this is important because my translation of the sidewalk transition information results in a surface slope of about 0.5%. I believe this slope will be too flat for the paver walkway to adequately drain. Please follow-up with Halff to verify whether or not this is an issue. Joel From: Joel Massey Sent: Monday, January 10, 2011 10:20 AM To: 'Christiansen, Eric' Cc: Bruce Dunne Subject: VP - Ponte Ave. Bridge Sidewalk Grading Eric, I am working on the proposed grading coordination, at both ends of the Vitruvian Park Ponte Ave. bridge, with the four (4) adjacent buildings (existing, proposed & future), the Vitruvian Park access and the Ponte Ave. roadway. I have one question to you concerning the “sidewalk slope transitions” at the southeast and southwest corners of the bridge. Using the sidewalk slope transition stations and plan view slopes shown on your sheet S1-01 and the proposed roadway grades, it looks like the sidewalk slope transition areas on the south end of the bridge are not going to drain very well. Please look at the attached PDF exhibit and let me know if I have translated the bridge design correctly on the exhibit. Joel A. Massey Project Manager icon Consulting Engineers, Inc.
