Clay, I wanted to run this past you before I responded to Icon regarding the sidewalk grading since my answer has been changed somewhat after a conversation with Jonathan McCulley. Please call me to discuss this when you get a chance. Eric Joel, In order to address your question, we have reviewed the grading of the sidewalk at the "south" end of the Ponte Avenue Bridge. We acknowledge that the sidewalk transitions from a slope of 1.6% away from the roadway centerline on the bridge deck to a slope of 1.4% towards the roadway centerline on the approaches, thereby creating a relatively flat area midway through the transition. Fortunately, the limited flow in this area will still be promoted off the sidewalk. This flow will either run into the gutter or over the face of the wingwall. Therefore, we do not believe that drainage on the sidewalk at the south end of the Ponte Avenue Bridge will be a problem. Sincerely, Eric Eric S. I have one question to you concerning the “sidewalk slope transitions” at the southeast and southwest corners of the bridge. Using the sidewalk slope transition stations and plan view slopes shown on your sheet S1-01 and the proposed roadway grades, it looks like the sidewalk slope transition areas on the south end of the bridge are not going to drain very well. Please look at the attached PDF exhibit and let me know if I have translated the bridge design correctly on the exhibit. Joel A. Massey Project Manager icon Consulting Engineers, Inc.
