Amanda, Here are Robert Boswell comments on the welding procedures Austin has supplied us with. Sounds like they need some help in providing the right documentation. Hammerberg; David T. Hernandez; Robert Boswell Subject: RE: welding procedures Wade, The attached WPS’s are not applicable to the project. The procedures state they are for Electroslag and Electrogas welding. Welding on the project is being performed with Shielded Metal Arc Welding. The WPS’s are from the AWS B2.1 Code for Specifications and Performance Qualifications. This code is generally used when a special procedure is needed that a specific code will not provide appropriate or sufficient information for. The WPS’s were not complete in content, not all of the joint details were shown and not in compliance. These WPS’s are not considered as being in compliance with project specifications. In the case of the Vitruvian project, the AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code will provide the appropriate and sufficient information along with format for WPS’s, and WPQR’s. All joint details will need to be shown in the AWS D1.5 Certifications. WPQR’s should also be submitted that match the WPS’s that will be submitted.
