Mr. Barnett:
After checking the drawings I have some questions:
1. Are these hanger roads to be post tensioned ?; are there any specs for these rods ?
Answer: The hanger rods are NOT post-tensioned. The rods are specified as meeting ASTM A36 and will be galvanized per TxDOT Item 445, in accordance with Sheet S1-20.
2. They call for 2” bars which we do not have. We either have our #18 GR75 bars or the high strength 2.5” GR150 bars. Will any of these be acceptable ?.
Answer: While a slight increase in the size of the rod is acceptable, the diameter should be limited to 2.5" to allow for a meaningful cap plate at the bridge deck connection. (See Sheet
S1-24) The finish of the bar should be smooth to allow for slip at the bridge deck connection. This eliminates the possibility of using deformed reinforcement for the rods.
3. will all thread bars be accepted ?
Answer: All-thread bar will NOT be acceptable. Threading is limited to the top 4" of the rod per Section G-G on Sheet S1-24.
