Eric, I appreciate Lenny’s efforts to make us happy. However, after thinking about Brad Goldberg’s comments, I am not sure I agree. To me, the trim on the railing looks tacked on and the style of it is a dis-connect from the clean contemporary lines of the arches. I have been thinking about it and looking at other bridges, and it seems to me that if we put the supporting cables back (I know they don’t support anything, but as non-engineer, that doesn’t bother me), then we painted the bridge white and lit it with red lights at night, we would have the original bridge that we liked, except now it is constructible, easily maintained, and affordable. Pardon my crude sketch, (attached) but I added the cables and some light sconces across the bottom, and it seems like we are very close to the bridge we wanted. We need to remember that we are the only people who saw the original bridge design, so the public at large has nothing to compare this design against. We could even paint it red if we want to and just know that we will have to repaint it. We already have two big metal things to paint in town, so we might get a bulk price. Lenny will be formally introducing these ideas on Thursday afternoon, along with ideas for Bella Lane and the pedestrian bridge, but I thought you might want to see Ponte ahead of time. In case you were wondering, Lea was sent the same document earlier. Nancy, if you feel Ron would benefit from seeing this document, please forward it to him. We look forward to presenting our vision for the three bridges to the Town on Thursday afternoon and hope you will still be able to attend. Sincerely, Eric Christiansen Eric S.
