A couple questions/considerations: 1. What is the vertical taper on the rail transition at each end? I suggest 30:1. I also would not begin the vertical transition until after the rail clears the limits of the thrust block (just a preference on my part). 2. What type of rail is proposed? I assume it is the T221 (see attached file ristd004.pdf). You might consider the T66 rail (see Section E-E on Sheet 3 of 3 of the attached file ristd012.pdf). The T66 will provide some relief on the traffic face and might be more aesthetically pleasing. The width of the T66 also looks to fit well in the gap between the traffic face of the thrust block and the face of the beam. If you use the T66, I would carry the relief in the rail face across the traffic face of the thrust block. One consideration is the high end of the bridge where the traffic rail must taper down to meet the thrust block – perhaps the T66 shape might look awkward at this location. Steve – any thoughts? Please review the attached “Ponte Ave Bridge Traffic Rail” exhibit and let us know if this configuration is acceptable to the Town of Addison. If you would like, please forward to HNTB for their input. If this traffic rail configuration is acceptable, please let us know as soon as possible so that we may provide the information to Viewtech for incorporation into the bridge plans (both Ponte Ave. and Bella Lane). Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information. Joel A. Massey Project Manager icon Consulting Engineers, Inc. Bicentennial Financial Center 250 W.
