The concern about the backing bar is the one expressed in the meeting about the backing bar interfering with the x-ray (RT). The other option is to remove it once the welding is done. I talked to Robert Boswell and looks like we’ll x-ray most of the welds and then do UT on the ones that we can’t get to both sides of. Also, the AWS code book requires that backing bars be 3 inches wide if we are going to x-ray those welds. Please pass that along. If they aren’t 3 inches wide, then we have to do UT.
