Friends, Please find the attached sketches that show the Ponte and Bella Bridges in perspective from both the bridge and the adjacent park. Each image includes a representation of the handrail shown on Sheet L1-15 from the Phase 1C drawings. The views of Ponte show a 32' tall arch with a variable cross-section and include a T401 (TxDOT) traffic rail. The views of Bella show a 15' tall arch with a slight variation in cross-section and also include a T401 traffic rail. We would appreciate your comments on each structure. It should be pointed out that the 15' arch height at Bella is different than the 12' tall arch we discussed last week. The reason is simple; in our minds, the 12' tall arch didn't look or feel appropriate to the bridge length. However, if you'd like to revert to the 12' tall arch, we'll make that happen. In addition, although we are showing arches with variable cross-section, it is our opinion that a constant cross-section would be the most appropriate shape. This is especially true when considering economics; the constant cross-section will be less expensive than one of variable cross-section. Again, we'll defer to the desires of the stakeholders. Lastly, assuming we are under contract by Monday of next week, we are proposing to meet with the Vitruvian team next Thursday at the service center to nail down the bridge cross-sections and finalize the arch geometry (height and cross-section). This will be critical to maintaining our eight (8) week schedule. We look forward to your comments regarding the attached drawings and hope you'll be available to meet next Thursday, March 4.
