Joel, What account number do we need to use for the water line project? Thanks, Clay Barnett, P.E. Are you relatively confident with respect to the quantities in the bid? If we proceed with this, and the quantities come in higher, we would really be in trouble (over budget, without a doubt). Taking out the $7,500 gets it down to around $84,000 but that is only if we don’t go over on quantities. If you get a chance to look over those quantities, I would really appreciate your opinion on whether they are likely to be sufficient. That will save roughly $7,500. Short of that, I do not see anything that can be cut. Clay Barnett, P.E. More seriously, is there any way to get these costs down? What level of confidence do you have in those quantities, is there much chance of the quantities coming in lower than that, particularly on boring the water line, since that has a pretty high unit cost? This is a real dilemma for us, because we need either a waterline or a (temporary) waiver for PlaneSmart with respect to a connection for their sprinkler system, and I don’t see the latter as a likely possibility … so we need the water line. We might actually have enough remaining in this year’s budget to do it at this price, but that would leave no margin for error on anything else and I would be very concerned about the potential for going over budget. This is a big number, much bigger than we expected. I’m just wondering if we can take another look at the drawings and see if we can’t find some ways to economize. Joel Joel Jenkinson Director, Addison Airport main: (972) 392-4850 fax: (972) 788-9334 P.S. – if you really want to be cheered up, think about the fact that it is very likely we will need to construct or re-construct additional waterlines in some areas of the airport as other properties change ownership or occupancy and then must come into compliance with the new fire codes and install sprinkler systems. _____ From: Clay Barnett [mailto:cbarnett@addisontx.gov] Sent: Tuesday, August 18, 2009 11:45 AM To: Jenkinson, Joel Subject: Waterline Bid Joel, I have received quotes for the water line along the southern limits of the fire station. The quotes are attached. The lowest price is $90,015. Please let me know how you would like to proceed. Thanks, Clay Barnett, P.E.
