She expressed concern about the traffic pattern/plan for the new school. Her principal at Anne Frank had reviewed the plan and did not think that the current plan would be successful. The reason is that she believes that we are underestimating the number of drop-off students. According to Ms. Durant, walking to school is much less common now, even for clearly walking-distance students. Parents prefer to drop them off on the way to work. I don't have any data on this, just her recommendation that we do a traffic study and possibly revise the plan to accomodate many more drop-off/pickup students. The primary concern with any plan is safety. A secondary concern is that if dropoff/pickup is difficult, that could impact how parents feel about the school and whether it is a viable option.
