Frank, You make a good point, but the existing hazards are such that I strongly believe that the sooner we get them addressed, the better off we will be. For example, the existing drop inlet west of Twy Alpha and just south of the inlet to the Million Air ramp (near ‘Inlet 6’ as shown on the attached drawing) is 42 inches below the grade of the taxiway edge that is approximately 10 feet away; that is just not an acceptable situation. I don’t want to wait even one or two more years to have that corrected. Also, with respect to the drainage ditch on the north side of Million Air’s ramp, as soon as we get that in a culvert and filled over, we can lease that little triangle of dirt to Million Air and let them pave it to expand their available ramp / parking area. That will generate a little revenue for the airport and improve safety and efficiency for Million Air, so again, sooner is better than later. With respect to reconfiguring ramp-to-Alpha connectors, I believe we have (thus far) identified only two locations where this needs to occur: from Taxiway Hotel straight across into the Jet Port (Atlantic Aviation) ramp, and from Taxiway Foxtrot to the Landmark Aviation ramp. The new connector at Hotel will eliminate two smaller connectors and ‘Inlet 3’ on the attached drawing. Expanding the existing inlet at Foxtrot will have much less impact. It is not a given that the Taxiway Alpha overlay / reconstruction will be concrete; even if it is, would we really need to change the elevation of Alpha by that much? Bottom line, I think the currently planned Twy Alpha drainage improvements are a “bird in the hand” that address some significant existing hazards and I don’t want to put that off. If we have to revisit those areas in FY12 when we rehabilitate Alpha, I don’t think it would be that big of a cost. Since the Taxiway Alpha project may be a concrete overlay, the areas grass areas between Alpha and the Ramp will need to be graded. Since the Taxiway Alpha project will eliminate several ramp-to-Alpha taxiway connectors, inlet and culvert modification will be needed. Don’t you think we should move the Alpha drainage improvement to be included in the Alpha project?
