Joel: Olden proposes to remove the silt from the bottom of the Million Air ditch for $2,600. If approved to remove the silt, Olden will try to get equipment to start this week and complete it no later than next week. Please let me know how you want to proceed and I will direct Olden accordingly. The idea is that it will be just as strong (6,000 psi) and provide erosion control for 2 – 3 years. Tim at Olden is working on a price for silt clean up. I’ll email everyone when I get that quote and confirm their schedule. I didn’t look at it all that closely, but I believe that’s what they intend, same as what they used already. It does not need to support vehicle or even foot traffic, it just needs to hold the slope for 2-3 years until we can get a culvert put in there. Frank, can you check with Olden to see whether they can be out here Monday? As far as the silt in the channel now, I would prefer to have Olden remove it, but we really have no money left for this fiscal year. Still, I guess there is no harm in asking what would it cost for them to clean it out. If they say $500, I can always find $500, but if it’s $5,000 I’m not so sure we have that much left in the budget, particularly with that water line project in the works. Dave’s guys are pretty busy these days, and I’m not sure it’s something we could do in-house anyway, but I’ll ask Dave what he thinks. (Dave … what do you think?) Please let us know when they are out there so we can provide an inspector. I am curious as to the cross section of the shot-crete. We still think we should get the silt out of the bottom if possible. Any ideas? How much would Olden charge? Just worried about it going downstream and filling the culverts down there. Frank has talked with Olden, and Olden has proposed (at no additional charge, in lieu of seeding and a fiber blanket on the north slope of the channel) to come back and shot-crete the north slope. Olden also stated that they believe the silt in the channel came from upstream (and certainly much of it did, although I would also say that some of it came from the north slope of the ditch) and that they do not believe it should be their responsibility to remove it. Given that they are proposing to come back and shot-crete the north slope, I am fine with them not removing the silt. Frank says if they get an answer on this today or early tomorrow, they can come out Monday and do the work. I like this idea, but I wanted to run it by you before we give them the green light. What do you think, does this sound good? Joel _____ From: McIllwain, Frank O. Tim from Olden will call Joe tomorrow to get airfield access, look at the ditch and silt removal, and measure for erosion control matting. I wanted to hold off paying the full amount until we had some resolution of our concerns with the channel having silted up and the north side of the ditch needing to be stabilized. What is the status of that, are they coming back to fix that and stabilize the slope anytime soon?
