Joel, After our progress meeting on Monday, EAS decided to revise the irrigation plan so that there will not be any piping inside the RSA. Their revised plan is to place a 6-inch aluminum pipe at the RSA boundry, with approximately 30-foot lengths of 3-inch lateral piping on the taxiway side of the 6-inch line. Sprinkler heads on the 6-inch line will irrigate the RSA and sprinkler heads at the ends of the lateral piping will irrigate the taxiway safety area. Once we get the revised irrigation layout and sprinkler head details, I’ll forward that information to everyone. What are they made of? Are we talking about something like a fire hose, schedule 40 PVC, or something else entirely? If it is a 3-inch pipe, what is the outside diameter of the pipe, would that not be more than 3 inches? What about the sprinkler heads, do we have any detail on those, are they frangible? When they did this at DFW, was it in the RSA and taxiway safety areas? The irrigation subcontractor has worked with EAS on similar airfield projects at DFW. Installation will include borings and conduit sleeves under the taxiways. The system will consist of 6” main lines and 3” lateral lines with sprinkler heads. The 6” will be outside the runway safety area. See the attached drawings for more detailed information. Please let me know if you have any suggestions to revise the boring locations or any other part of the proposed system. Thanks.
