Josh, No formal RFI is necessary at this time. I have spoken with our lighting sub and he has no issue with the proposed solutions that Durable has presented. Please proceed with these changes and keep track of revised quantities. Let me know if you have any questions. Michael Barbier, P.E. Town Engineer Town of Addison 16801 Westgrove Drive Addison, TX 75001-2818 Office: (972) 450-2857 From: Josh Hodsdon [mailto:josh@ntexcon.com] Sent: Friday, August 05, 2011 3:52 PM To: Clay Barnett; 'Barbier, Michael'; 'Romanowski, Mike'; Nancy Cline Cc: 'Andy Nord'; Patrick Bryan Subject: Electrical issues Clay, Durable has brought a few electrical issues to light now that all of the underground is in place and they have begun setting the uplight boxes. The first issue has to do with the draw on three of the lighting circuits. They have found that they have a 13.3A draw on a 15A circuit (3 ea). This is not allowed per code as I understand. They have proposed installing three 20A breakers to rectify this issue. The second issue is a concern that there may be a problem with “overheating” the uplight boxes due to the amount of wiring and the current in the small boxes. The last request is to reduce the 4-#6 wires for the uplights to 4-#8 due to the size of the conduit specified in the plans and according to their calculations the #8 wires would still be enough to carry the current. Below is a little more of their explanation: “The plans show for 3-#6 AWG and 1-#8 AWG wires to be pulled to the tree lights. We have two concerns here one being if that meets code with the size of the box and the amount of heat the ballast will put off and secondly physically being able to get all the wires in (essentially 6-#6 AWG & 2-#8 AWG wires, 4 in and 4 out) the box and making the connections. If you remember these lights were a CO and the original boxes may have been larger.” Please review these issues and let me know if you have any questions.
