Clay, Attached is Lynn’s proposal regarding the dowels near the free edge of the apron’s pavement. He clouded the areas to receive the dowels. Adhering strictly to the FAA Advisory Circular would require dowels in all the joints 20’ from edge of pavement. In actuality heavy airplanes won’t be that close to the edge, so I think his proposal is acceptable. The larger issue in my mind is placing reinforcing through the sawcut joints. I’d recommend they cut the steel 3” from either side of each sawcut joint. If you want me to clarify or formalize anything let me know. As I mentioned, the other edges will not have the loading on them since the aircraft only park in these areas and the weight of the aircraft does not get close to the edges. Please review and let me know what you think. Regards, L. Lynn Kadleck, PE, RPLS Kadleck & Associates 555 Republic Drive, Suite 115 Plano, Texas 75074 972-881-0771 lkadleck@verizon.net
